Exploratory Essay Reflection

My subject for my exploratory essay was abortion rights. Prior to working on this assignment, I knew a fair amount about this subject. Abortion rights in late spring of 2022, many headlines were filled about the overturn of roe v wade. One of my last assignments for my high school English class was to research a current event and I chose roe v wade. The assignment was canceled so I only did a brief research into this topic.

Although I had some form of familiarity with the topic of Roe v Wade, I had some difficulties when relating this back to a theme of the primary text. I was able to resolve this issue by looking more in depth at the themes of the primary text and relating it to my topic instead. Another problem I came across is this assignment called for a less opinionated voice, I was not meant to show my thoughts and biases. In order to compare this, I had to revise my work again.

This piece revealed that as a learner I have difficulty finding many resources, I usually rely heavily on at least three sources, but I was able to actively use what I learned in the library session. In the library session, they taught us how to use the CCNY library and other online sources. I was able to actively use these lessons, which helped engrave what I learned.

In some ways I did my work like other people, since we are taking the same class, we used the same methods to research for this assignment. Although I did differ from others by trying to outline my essay first instead of writing right away.

If I had the chance to do this piece over again, I would change how I include my quotes by including more paraphrase and analysis. Although after this assignment, I feel more confident in doing another assignment similar to this one and I know a lot more about this topic.
